Position Summary
The Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in implementing The Language Access Lab’s language equity and sustainability initiatives. The Language Access Lab aims to train 15 interpreters and 15 agencies every year. This position is responsible for coordinating the interpreter training cohorts, managing the "Community of Practice" events and online resources, and assisting in training agencies and supporting the development of language access plans.
The ideal candidate will be an independent bridge-builder who thrives in connecting with others and can work towards implementing a vision including implementing detailed processes. The candidate must be able to foster "compassion and solidarity" among bilingual professionals and service providers.
Key Responsibilities
Undergo The Community Interpreter "Train-the-Trainer" (ToT):
This position will become a licensed instructor, eventually leading sessions alongside others to increase the frequency of local training.
Coordinate Interpreter Training:
This position will manage logistics for interpreter training cohorts, including student recruitment from immigrant and refugee communities, venue coordination, and material preparation.
Community Engagement:
This position will facilitate the Language Access Community Engagement Committee, organizing networking events and "Communities of Practice" for interpreters and advocates to share best practices.
Organizational Support:
This position will assist the Executive Director and other associates in conducting training and language access assessments for local agencies to improve service delivery for Limited English Proficient (LEP) residents.
Impact Tracking:
This person will collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data (e.g., student test scores, satisfaction surveys, and impact stories) for grant reporting and program improvement.
Other tasks as needed.
Skills and Attributes
Strong organizational skills: Ability to work independently and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Attention to detail to ensure accuracy, timely communication and compliance with program standards.
Communication: Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster "mutually beneficial relationships" between staff and communities we serve.
Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities within the scope of a small, growing organization.
Community connection: Deep understanding of the challenges faced by immigrants and refugees including in Northeast Indiana.
Experience and Requirements
3+ years experience in community organizing, language services, or related work.
Bilingual Proficiency: Fluency in English and at least one other language is required.
Interpreting or translation experience, or familiarity with language access work.
Preferred (not required)
Education/Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience in language services).
Experience coordinating programs, events, training, or volunteers.
