We build communities of practice for language access
Shape the future with us.
Our Mission
The Language Access Lab is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building capacity for language access through advocacy, awareness, and interpreter training. We are committed to fostering communities of practice that promote equitable communication and connection to vital services for individuals with limited English proficiency (LEP).
The Language Access Lab’s mission is to build capacity for language access through advocacy, awareness, and interpreter training. We foster communities of practice to promote equitable communication and connection to vital services. We achieve this by providing awareness and training for interpreters (such as The Community Interpreter training), offering organizational training on the foundations of language access, and assisting in the development of language access plans using the strategic doing framework. Since our founding, we have grown our community of practice to include passionate interpreters, advocates, and partner organizations.
We offer a variety of services to meet the diverse needs of the communities we serve:
Interpreter Training: Our programs equip interpreters with the skills and knowledge needed to provide high-quality language services.
Organizational Training: We provide customized training for organizations to help them understand the importance of language access and develop effective language access plans.
Advocacy & Awareness: We work to raise public awareness about the right to language access and advocate for policies that support equitable communication in all sectors.
We also develop custom resources and host The Community Hub, a community of practice, to support a network of professionals. This includes collaborative projects and ongoing support to ensure that our collective efforts have a lasting impact.
Our Pillars
We are building a foundation for language access through:
Advocacy: Championing practices that promote language access in all sectors.
Awareness: Raising public understanding of the critical importance of language access and its impact on individuals and communities.
Training: Equipping interpreters and organizations with the skills and knowledge to provide high-quality, ethical linguistic support.
Communities of Practice: Fostering collaborative environments where professionals and advocates can share knowledge, best practices, and support to advance language access.
Our Vision
We believe language access powers communities.
At The Language Access Lab, we know that language barriers shouldn’t stand in the way of access to essential services. When organizations, policymakers, and interpreters come together to plan and collaborate, real change happens. That’s why we created The Language Access Lab Inc.—a nonprofit committed to transforming language access through advocacy, awareness, and interpreter training.
We are building communities of practice— spaces where stakeholders can learn from one another, break down obstacles, and take meaningful steps toward equitable communication. Starting in Allen County and Northeast Indiana, we are creating a model for communities across the country.
Join us in shaping a future where language is no longer a barrier but a bridge.
